Reading Buddies

What do you get when you take a class of third graders and a class of kindergartners and pair them up???  READING BUDDIES!!!  Ms. Stanley and Mrs. Harrison's classes have joined forces again this year to increase our love of reading :)  Check out these pictures from our first meeting...

Reading Online

Many of our third graders have a seat on Raz Kids.  Once you pull up the link, www.raz-kids.com, your child will login as hpayne4 then find their seat to start reading books on their individual reading level :)  As they read and take quizzes, they will earn points to spend in their Raz Rocket Room!

All third graders also have an account on Big Universe.  Once you pull up the link, www.biguniverse.com, your child will login with their first and last name.  Their password is their lunch number.

All children have access to tumblebooks.com as well.  The username is cravensteacher and the password is books.

Static Electricity Experiments

Balloons, aluminum cans, records, crispy rice, thread, water...what do all these items have in common?  We used them to create static electricity!  Ask your child about our mini science experiments over the past few days, and check the pictures below to see some of the science excitement in third grade :)

Olympics

The 2012 summer Olympics have opened and closed, but somewhere in the middle we dug in to find some facts!  Students were paired to research a past or present Olympic athlete and create a biography card.  The pairs also created a graphic organizer and 3D flag after they researched a country that competed in the Olympics!

Mr. Williams and myself were super proud of the students in their first attempt to research the Internet for information.  By the end of the year, your children will be teaching us how to research and create products :)

Some of our work!
